DIET AND ARTHRITIS

Until recently, the diet of people living with arthritis was not thought to affect their
illness. However, in reality, what we eat plays a major role in the general health of all of
us, and there is convincing scientific evidence that the food we eat could help diseases of
the joints. Joints, which are at the spaces separating the ends of bones, are capsules filled
with fluid. The ends of the bones are a rubbery tissue called cartilage. Arthritis happens
when the normal processes going on in the joint go wrong. Here, I write about two
different types of arthritis: osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
In osteoarthritis, the breaking down and rebuilding of the joint cartilage leads to aching
joints which become sorer with use. Researchers have not come to definite conclusions
yet about the diet that is best for an osteoarthritis patient, but what follows are some of
the possibilities raised by research in the last few years.
OBESITY
There is strong evidence that being very overweight (obesity) increases the chances of
getting osteoarthritis, and that if you are overweight, losing weight improves the
symptoms of osteoarthritis. Scientists believed this was because the large weight load
strained the joints, but as obese people also develop more osteoarthritis of the hand than
non-obese people, there may be a metabolic cause. The best way for a very overweight
person to lose weight is to ask their GP for a consultation with a dietician. The important
things are to cut down on fats and oils (they have the highest number of calories per gram
of any food), avoid oily or sugary snack foods, and eat more vegetables, bread and
cereals.
ANTIOXIDANT NUTRIENTS: VITAMIN C AND
VITAMIN E
Osteoarthritis is more common in older people, and antioxidant nutrients are thought to
protect against diseases of aging, so some scientists believe that eating plenty of vitamin
C and vitamin E could lower our chances of getting osteoarthritis. This has not been
scientifically proven, but some experiments on people who already have the disease have
shown that vitamins C and E can reduce joint pain and reduce the risk of progression to a
worse stage. Scientists do not yet know exactly why these vitamins can help
osteoarthritis. They may mop up potentially damaging molecules called reactive oxygen
species, which are produced in the joint. Also vitamin C seems to be needed for the
building of new healthy cartilage, and vitamin E might act by reducing inflammation. To
eat vitamin C, try fresh fruit, especially blackcurrants, strawberries and oranges. Also
there is a lot of vitamin C in fruit juice, green leafy vegetables, and green peppers.
Vitamin E is found in extra virgin olive oil, wheat germ oil and other vegetable oils.
VITAMIN D
Vitamin D is very important for bones, and recent research suggested that people with not
enough vitamin D had worse progression of their osteoarthritis. This is probably because
vitamin D is necessary for the health of the bones on either side of the diseased joint, but
it is also possible that the vitamin may be used by the joint cartilage itself. We get most
of our vitamin D from sunlight, but you can eat it in the form of cod liver oil, herring,
kippers, sardines or tuna. Some margarine and milk is fortified with vitamin D. It tells
you on the packet.
In rheumatoid arthritis joints become inflamed. It usually affects more than one joint,
causing pain, swelling and stiffness in the mornings. There are other changes that affect
the rest of the body also. The cause of rheumatoid arthritis is one of the big areas of
research in medical science, but the effect of diet on the disease receives only a little
attention from researchers.
FISH OILS AND PLANT OILS
Fish oils contain substances known as n-3 fatty acids. Most oils and fats in the modern
Western diet contain a different kind of fatty acid called n-6 fatty acids. So a diet rich in
oily fish like mackerel or tuna, or with a supplement of fish oil tablets, has a higher
proportion of n-3 fatty acids compared to n-6 fatty acids. Experiments show that this
reduces joint tenderness and swelling in rheumatoid arthritis. Oil from the evening
primrose flower contains an n-6 fatty acid which also is thought to improve rheumatoid
arthritis. You can buy this in the chemist. Flax seed oil is an alternative. It’s a good idea
to talk to your doctor before starting to take oils as supplements.
GLUCOSAMINE/CHONDROITIN
These are commonly used because people believe that they can improve joint pain. The
scientific evidence has never been conclusive, but since there are very few reports of
adverse events people thought that it was reasonable to try them. However recent largescale
scientific studies of glucosamine and chondroitin failed to find evidence that they
are of real benefit.
OVERALL DIET
Studies carried out in America on the health of people with rheumatoid arthritis, and
comparisons with the rest of the population, showed that on average, rheumatoid arthritis
patients eat too little vitamin B6, folic acid, zinc, copper and magnesium, and they
generally eat too much fat and too little fibre. Also researchers found that the illness had
made a quarter of the patients malnourished. So we can see that it’s very important for
people with rheumatoid arthritis to pay attention to their whole diet, eating plenty of fruit
and vegetables, bread and cereal, and possibly taking a vitamin and mineral supplement
to give the right daily amounts of nutrients.
Although much of the research described here is quite new, and work is still going on to
find ways that osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis can be improved by changing diet, it
has been known for some time that what we eat can make a big difference to our health.

MARKETING 101 - BACK TO THE BASICS
Here are a few guidelines to achieve real results with your marketing.
1.Have an audience
If you don't have an audience you can market to, you are wasting your time. Our program do not help you create an audience, but rather helps monetize by offering products/services your audience may need. You may market on legitimate ad networks like Google Adwords if you are experienced running paid campaigns, but avoid PTC networks ( always consult our Blacklist ).
2.Market directly to your audience
Simply tell your audience about the products/services you know they will care about, and link to appropriate pages on our website. We provide free banners, and easy options to link.
3.Don't trick your audience
Tricking your audience to take actions you want will not achieve results. All you get is poor quality traffic and sales conversions. Either way you lose, so don't waste your time.
4.Guide your audience to the right information
If you are marketing domain names to your audience, link to a page for domain name services. Web users have limited patience. Linking to irrelevant content will result in your audience leaving ( high bounce rates ) and cost you money!
5.Offer your audience incentives

UNDERSTANDING YOUR REPORT
Your report is structured to make it easy to understand how your payout/commission is calculated based on the quality of the traffic you are sending us.
You will see a row for each network ( or web property ) on which you are marketing. You can click on each network to drill down into specific origin pages, and other details.
For each network, we calculate 8 key performance indicators (KEI) metrics including 3 that we release publicly in the report. These are:
Click fraud rate - example, your website sends us 100 clicks, by 90 unique people, means some folks click through more than once, and your click fraud rate is 10/100 or 10%. A high click fraud rate could indicate POOR traffic of one form or the other.
Views per click - example, your website sends us 100 clicks, that went through 300 pages, means an average of 3 pages per click. A high views per click is a strong indication of a well put together marketing campaign.
Bounce rate - example, your website sends us 100 clicks, by 100 people, with 30 of which immediately leave without looking at any other page/information, means a bounce rate of 30/100 or 30%. A high bounce rate is a strong indication of both a poorly put together marketing campaign and/or POOR traffic of one form or the other.
We have chosen to not disclose the remaining metrics at this time to unscrupulous parties from engineering a solution that will evade our automated monitoring/reporting systems.
Your KEI values are color coded in red ( BAD ) and green ( GOOD ) on your report. You want all your KEI to be green to have a GOOD quality status for your traffic from any network. If any of your KEI is red, your quality status for that traffic will be marked as POOR.

If you’re promoting with paid advertising, a good digital sales funnel can mean the difference between a huge roi (return on investment) and a huge loss from promoting raw affiliate links. If you’re promoting with free traffic, using a digital sales funnel means you work less hard for more profit. 2. Promote – There’s a lot of misconceptions about traffic and it's important to understand the difference between targeted visitors and 'clicks’. There are a lot of sites around that will sell you a 100000 clicks for 5 bucks or whatever. This type of traffic won't make you any money because the clicks, if they’re even made by human visitors, aren't targeted. In other words, your website isn't getting visited by people who are interested in your offers. Many affiliates think that any clicks will eventually convert into sales. The truth is that clicks must be targeted to convert into leads and sales. If you don’t get targeted traffic, you won’t make any money – it’s that simple. There are only 2 basic ways to send visitors to a webpage: with paid advertising and with free traffic methods. The fastest way is with paid advertising although some free traffic methods can also be very effective. One type of paid advertising that has worked better for me than any other is solo advertising. In my experience, the best place to get cost effective solo ads is at Udimi, a marketplace where you can buy solo emails to established marketers' lists. Advertisers leave ratings for solo ad vendors so that you can see what sort of results other people are getting with each vendor. Two more awesome ad sources, which have generated many times more revenue than they cost me to acquire are Referral Frenzy and Truckload Of Ads, although these sites are unsuitable for promoting offers which are not related to making money online and internet marketing. There are a few free traffic methods that have yielded good results for me. For example, if you're promoting products related to making money online, you can get lots of free targeted visitors by using ad exchanges. These include mailers, safe lists, text ad exchanges and traffic exchanges. Whilst these sources won’t work as well as real solo ads, they’re free and most of the people using these sites have an online business to promote, so your sites are being visited by people who want to make money on the net. Personally, I've never had any success with trying to gamify search engine algorithms with seo, so I don't really do any search engine optimization. On the other hand, social media sites have worked quite well for me, although no free traffic source I have tried has worked anywhere near as well as paid advertising and if you want to get your affiliate business launched quickly, paid advertising is by far the best solution.
3. Track – All successful affiliates track both clicks and conversions. Tracking clicks enables you to determine whether your advertising is getting you any visitors. Tracking conversions enables you to determine whether the visitors are real and interested in your offer. Unfortunately, there are a lot of advertising sellers online that get you a ton of clicks but the clicks they get you never convert to leads or sales. When tracking conversions, it’s easiest just to track whether your clicks convert to free offer sign-ups as this will give you more data than tracking sales. All genuine leads can convert to sales if they’re shown the right offer at the right price. However, it is worth mentioning that buying incentivized leads is not a good strategy for affiliates, as people who sign-up to offers just to receive a few cents or whatever are very unlikely to buy anything from you.
4. Tweak – Adjusting your affiliate campaigns in response to your conversion tracking statistics is something else that successful affiliates do. Put simply, this just means testing whether making changes to various components of your affiliate campaign such as your lead capture page (a.k.a. a squeeze page), solo email copy, banner ad design or email follow-up copy increases or decreases sign-up conversions and/or overall profit for the same traffic source. You can also ‘split-test’ 2 different versions of a lead capture page to see which gets the most sign-ups with the same traffic source. Although this sounds a bit complicated if you’re just starting out as an affiliate, split-testing it’s a great way to boost your return on investment. An easy way to launch split-test campaigns if you’re not technically inclined is with a software tool called Split Test Monkey which you can use to easily run split-tests and automatically send your visitors to the higher-converting version of your landing page after the software has measured which landing page is better at converting visitors into leads. Don’t worry if tweaking campaigns sounds a bit complicated – just get a campaign launched and promoted and then worry about tweaking after you’ve got some results.

5. Engage – People buy stuff from other people. Once you have some email leads it’s important to try to connect with them so that they know who you are, trust you and care what you have to say and what products you recommend. If you connect with your leads, you’ll be building the most valuable asset an affiliate can have – a responsive following. There is a huge difference between a list of opt-in email addresses and a responsive following. You can have 100000 email addresses and not make any significant income from your list but if you have a small list of targeted, responsive followers, it can make you very wealthy. You can connect with your leads by telling them about yourself – some of what you tell them is very likely to resonate with them as most affiliates start out for the same reasons, like wanting to make money from home so they can spend more time with their families and wanting greater control over their lives than can be achieved by having a 9-5 job.
6. Help – If you want to really connect with your leads and build a long-term loyal customer base, it’s important that the free content you give to your new prospects really helps them. If your giveaway product is a free report, your leads will base their opinion of you on that report, so giving them a shoddy, poorly written and uninformative report will not help you at all. It’s also essential that any premium product you recommend genuinely provides your buyers with a solution to whatever problem the product claims to solve. For instance, I mostly promote digital products related to affiliate marketing, I am therefore particularly careful when looking for products to promote as I don’t want my leads to buy a crappy blind offer which makes big income claims and then disappoints when the product behind the sales page turns out to be a massive dud. Sometimes you can find poor quality products which sell very well. They have huge EPCs, fancy videos, big promises and loads of (misleading) testimonials on the sales page and lots of affiliates promote them just to make a fast buck. Promoting offers like this is NOT a good strategy for building an affiliate business because it is unethical, it damages your brand and it disappoints your lead base, making them very unlikely to buy from you again. Obviously, the good products make big claims too and if they didn’t they wouldn’t be able to compete in today’s digital product marketplace. It’s therefore important to buy and test products yourself before you promote them so that you can separate the hypey offers which are worthwhile from those that are just 100% hype. There are no ‘nonhypey’ offers in the digital product marketplace so testing products to make sure they work is an important step for every ethical affiliate who promotes digital products.
7. Sell – Whilst you can still create a profitable affiliate business without doing any hard selling, if you want to grow your business as quickly as possible, you need to pitch products to people now and again. Some people are natural sellers, and some aren’t. Personally, I’m not a natural seller, and wouldn’t be able to persuade people to buy things over the phone. Fortunately, you don’t need to talk to people to sell affiliate products these days, you just need to be able to write a good sales email and press ‘send’ to broadcast it to your subscribers. In fact, if there’s an amazing offer which would really help your lead base, you owe it to them to try to get them to buy it. For example, Viral Lightning and Covert Commissions are both game-changers for beginners, as they remove a lot of the work which would normally be required to build a good automated digital sales funnel. Most new affiliates don’t have the knowledge or skills to create a funnel and without a funnel, you’re not going to get anywhere.
8. Rinse & Repeat – Once you’ve successfully launched a funnel, got some visitors through it and achieved some results, you need to take that same successful campaign model and apply it to more affiliate products. Each time you do this, you will get a little bit better at ‘plugging leaks’ in your funnel which could reduce your overall profit by improving your advertising copy, lead capture pages, lead magnets and follow-up sequences.

• Feeling fatigued, sluggish, and physically drained.

The copywriter's formula: AIDA
Memorize this. I don't know who to credit for this copywriting formu-la, but AIDA (Attract, Interest, Desire, Action) is a handy copy checklist. All the copy you write should include these elements.
Attract = get the reader's attention.
Interest = keep his attention.
Desire = evoke emotion.
Action = get a response.
Writing copy step by step.
The more copy you write for clients each day, the more money you make. Therefore, you need a method to get copy written fast, without dithering and wasting time wondering what to do next. The following method works. I recommend that you use it on every job. More play than work, it is fun and stress-free. Try it.
Step One: Research
After you have been briefed by the client, your first step is research. Even if you're sure that you have all the information you need, doing a bit of hunting and gathering for more information lets your subconscious mind brood on the task before you start writing.
My aim when I research is always to get what I call "the Click". The Click is part concept, part inspiration, part structure, and part my subconscious mind waving at me and yelling: "Yoohoo! We're ready, you can get started."
Your research period may be only a few minutes. When I was asked to do a fast rewrite job on five 30-second radio spots for a jewelry store, out of the two hours I had, I spent half an hour on research. Although I'd worked for the client previously, and knew what he was selling, I wanted to get a new angle, a unique fact – something different that I could base the copy around. I found it. I learned that gold is eternal: it's older than our solar system. That nugget of info inspired me, and let me breeze through writing the five spots.
Unless I'd been prepared to "waste" time on the research, I would have had a much harder time writing the copy, and the copy wouldn't have had any creative sparkle.
Step Two: Prepare by getting a conversation down on paper or on the computer screen
The biggest stumbling block for a writer is the blank page or comput-er screen. Writers get performance anxiety just like actors get stage fright. Luckily, that block is easy to conquer when you're writing copy.
Copy is conversational. If you're used to writing novels or non-fiction, this can be hard to achieve at first. Good copy is simply communication, rather than literary elegance, and you don't have to agonize over grammar. If you're getting your client's message across, you're writing good copy.
Here's a handy trick to get words on the page. When you start writ-ing, imagine you're talking to someone, telling her about the prod-uct. It helps to type something like: "Jeannie, I just found this great new thing, let me tell you about it…" Then describe the prod-uct.
Or, if you're writing longer copy, longer than a typical page of 250 words, talk into a tape recorder, and pretend to tell someone about the product, then transcribe the tape. Either of these techniques will stop you using a stiff and formal voice. You'll be using an in-formal conversational style and tone, which is appropriate for copy.
You'll also notice you've conquered the blank page.
Step Three: Brainstorm with word associations
You've got a page of conversation. Print it out if it's on the com-puter. Without thinking about it too much, circle any words which ap-peal to you. Circle five words. At this stage, you're nowhere near writing the final copy. You're making creative connections. This method of brainstorming uses your right and left brain.
Starting with the first word, write down 20 word associations you come up with. You can use a cluster diagram, or just make a list.
The key to getting results with this method is lack of effort on your part. Just do the process mechanically, and write down the first words which pop into your mind.
When you've done this, go and do something else for a while. Have a cup of coffee, or take the dog for a walk. Sometimes you'll get a rush job, and you won’t be able to take much time away, but no mat-ter how rushed you are, take at least ten minutes.
Step Four: First draft: write it fast
When you sit down at your desk, write a first draft as quickly as you can. Don’t refer to any of the word lists you made. Be casual, be confident, and get those words down.
Your first draft is your first take on the job. This gives you some-thing to work with, and you can tweak it until you're satisfied.
As you become more experienced, your first draft comes close to being your final draft. I usually send my second draft to the client as the "Initial Draft". I offer two free revisions of this draft in my writ-ing agreement. I've found that if I'm working for the client direct-ly, then either the client accepts my Initial Draft, and says "Great! Just what I want", or I do one minor revision. When working with an agency, I rarely get asked to do revisions.
My feeling is that because I've done a lot of preparation (research, getting a conversation down, and brainstorming), I'm pretty much on target when I send the Initial Draft. Therefore, the preparation work you do is important. Don’t try to jump into a final draft that you intend to send to the client when you sit down at the computer. You'll freeze up. Having a process that you work through leaves plenty of room for discovery ---and all writing is discovery --- and creativity, and this shows in the final results. Even if you don’t use any of the material you created in your preparation in the final draft, the preparation process loosens you up and helps you to write creative copy day after day, because you're not working --- you're playing, and your subconscious mind loves to play.

A perfect, selling ad? I lied. There's no such animal as the perfect, works-every-time, selling ad. But I got you to read this far, did-n’t I? That was the title's purpose --- see Tip Two: Write an at-tention-grabbing headline.
I didn't lie about these tips, though. They're easy and fun to use.
Tip One: who's the reader? (Or viewer, or listener if you're writing for broadcast.)
Although you're writing for a crowd, it's easiest to write if you im-agine you're talking to one particular person.
You can even start writing your first draft with a salutation, as if you were writing a letter: Start with "Dear Elli", and keep writing.
Who is this person? Is she old, young, married? Where does she live? What's her life like? What does she want most? What's she scared of? Why would she be interested in your product? What difference would it make in her life?
Professional copywriters spend a lot of time in this phase of the writing process. You can't motivate someone if you don’t know who they are.
Tip Two: Write an attention-grabbing headline
Your headline is vital. No one is looking for your ad. You've got to wave and yell at them to get their attention. If you don’t get their attention, no sale.
Write a trial headline to get yourself started. This probably won’t be the headline you'll use. However, with a trial headline, you've got a corral for your copy. You're writing to that headline.
When you've written a draft of the ad, force yourself, with a timer, to write another twenty headlines in five minutes. (Read the rest of the tips and write the benefits and the response before you write a draft.)
Don't try too hard. Who cares if they're all junk? You're writing lots of headlines to get your subconscious mind to take you serious-ly, and throw up the PERFECT headline. You'll never achieve this per-fect headline with conscious thought. It's a gift from your subcon-scious, but you have to goose it into cooperating.
You may find a headline you like more than your initial headline. Just substitute it, if it fits. If it doesn’t you can write another version of the ad to fit that headline's concept.
Tip Three: Write the features first, then work out what the benefits are
Nobody buys a product (or a service) for its own sake. They buy because it benefits them in some way. The benefits are what you're selling.
⦠You're not selling a German Shepherd puppy, you're selling an intelligent, loyal companion and family protector.
⦠You're not selling a car, you're selling traveling comfort, prestige, and a sure-fire babe-magnet.
⦠You're not selling a book, you're selling the adventure of a lifetime, love, romance, and sex.
To get a handle on this, take a sheet of paper and briefly list the features of your product or service on the left.
Then besides the feature, write the corresponding benefit that each feature provides.
Remember --- use the benefits in your ad.
Tip Four: Dont forget the response!
I've lost count of the number of ads I've seen everywhere from the Yellow Pages to full display ads costing thousands in magazines, where the copywriter and everyone else forgot the response.
You must tell the reader what you want him to do. You must ask for the sale. Ask the reader to do something: call a number, come into the store, go to a Web site.
This is so important that when I'm writing an ad I always write the required response on a sticky note and tape it to a corner of my monitor. I tape it onto the screen itself, so I can't miss it. (Yes, I have been guilty of forgetting the response. And very embarrassing it was too.)
Tip Five: Read it out loud
You've finished the final draft of your ad. Before you show it to an-yone else, read it aloud.
You'll pick up redundancies, awkward sentence construction and other nasties when you read the copy aloud.

The copywriter's formula: AIDA
Memorize this. I don't know who to credit for this copywriting formu-la, but AIDA (Attract, Interest, Desire, Action) is a handy copy checklist. All the copy you write should include these elements.
Attract = get the reader's attention.
Interest = keep his attention.
Desire = evoke emotion.
Action = get a response.
Writing copy step by step.
The more copy you write for clients each day, the more money you make. Therefore, you need a method to get copy written fast, without dithering and wasting time wondering what to do next. The following method works. I recommend that you use it on every job. More play than work, it is fun and stress-free. Try it.
Step One: Research
After you have been briefed by the client, your first step is research. Even if you're sure that you have all the information you need, doing a bit of hunting and gathering for more information lets your subconscious mind brood on the task before you start writing.
My aim when I research is always to get what I call "the Click". The Click is part concept, part inspiration, part structure, and part my subconscious mind waving at me and yelling: "Yoohoo! We're ready, you can get started."
Your research period may be only a few minutes. When I was asked to do a fast rewrite job on five 30-second radio spots for a jewelry store, out of the two hours I had, I spent half an hour on research. Although I'd worked for the client previously, and knew what he was selling, I wanted to get a new angle, a unique fact – something different that I could base the copy around. I found it. I learned that gold is eternal: it's older than our solar system. That nugget of info inspired me, and let me breeze through writing the five spots.
Unless I'd been prepared to "waste" time on the research, I would have had a much harder time writing the copy, and the copy wouldn't have had any creative sparkle.
Step Two: Prepare by getting a conversation down on paper or on the computer screen
The biggest stumbling block for a writer is the blank page or comput-er screen. Writers get performance anxiety just like actors get stage fright. Luckily, that block is easy to conquer when you're writing copy.
Copy is conversational. If you're used to writing novels or non-fiction, this can be hard to achieve at first. Good copy is simply communication, rather than literary elegance, and you don't have to agonize over grammar. If you're getting your client's message across, you're writing good copy.
Here's a handy trick to get words on the page. When you start writ-ing, imagine you're talking to someone, telling her about the prod-uct. It helps to type something like: "Jeannie, I just found this great new thing, let me tell you about it…" Then describe the prod-uct.
Or, if you're writing longer copy, longer than a typical page of 250 words, talk into a tape recorder, and pretend to tell someone about the product, then transcribe the tape. Either of these techniques will stop you using a stiff and formal voice. You'll be using an in-formal conversational style and tone, which is appropriate for copy.
You'll also notice you've conquered the blank page.
Step Three: Brainstorm with word associations
You've got a page of conversation. Print it out if it's on the com-puter. Without thinking about it too much, circle any words which ap-peal to you. Circle five words. At this stage, you're nowhere near writing the final copy. You're making creative connections. This method of brainstorming uses your right and left brain.
Starting with the first word, write down 20 word associations you come up with. You can use a cluster diagram, or just make a list.
The key to getting results with this method is lack of effort on your part. Just do the process mechanically, and write down the first words which pop into your mind.
When you've done this, go and do something else for a while. Have a cup of coffee, or take the dog for a walk. Sometimes you'll get a rush job, and you won’t be able to take much time away, but no mat-ter how rushed you are, take at least ten minutes.
Step Four: First draft: write it fast
When you sit down at your desk, write a first draft as quickly as you can. Don’t refer to any of the word lists you made. Be casual, be confident, and get those words down.
Your first draft is your first take on the job. This gives you some-thing to work with, and you can tweak it until you're satisfied.
As you become more experienced, your first draft comes close to being your final draft. I usually send my second draft to the client as the "Initial Draft". I offer two free revisions of this draft in my writ-ing agreement. I've found that if I'm working for the client direct-ly, then either the client accepts my Initial Draft, and says "Great! Just what I want", or I do one minor revision. When working with an agency, I rarely get asked to do revisions.
My feeling is that because I've done a lot of preparation (research, getting a conversation down, and brainstorming), I'm pretty much on target when I send the Initial Draft. Therefore, the preparation work you do is important. Don’t try to jump into a final draft that you intend to send to the client when you sit down at the computer. You'll freeze up. Having a process that you work through leaves plenty of room for discovery ---and all writing is discovery --- and creativity, and this shows in the final results. Even if you don’t use any of the material you created in your preparation in the final draft, the preparation process loosens you up and helps you to write creative copy day after day, because you're not working --- you're playing, and your subconscious mind loves to play.

A perfect, selling ad? I lied. There's no such animal as the perfect, works-every-time, selling ad. But I got you to read this far, did-n’t I? That was the title's purpose --- see Tip Two: Write an at-tention-grabbing headline.
I didn't lie about these tips, though. They're easy and fun to use.
Tip One: who's the reader? (Or viewer, or listener if you're writing for broadcast.)
Although you're writing for a crowd, it's easiest to write if you im-agine you're talking to one particular person.
You can even start writing your first draft with a salutation, as if you were writing a letter: Start with "Dear Elli", and keep writing.
Who is this person? Is she old, young, married? Where does she live? What's her life like? What does she want most? What's she scared of? Why would she be interested in your product? What difference would it make in her life?
Professional copywriters spend a lot of time in this phase of the writing process. You can't motivate someone if you don’t know who they are.
Tip Two: Write an attention-grabbing headline
Your headline is vital. No one is looking for your ad. You've got to wave and yell at them to get their attention. If you don’t get their attention, no sale.
Write a trial headline to get yourself started. This probably won’t be the headline you'll use. However, with a trial headline, you've got a corral for your copy. You're writing to that headline.
When you've written a draft of the ad, force yourself, with a timer, to write another twenty headlines in five minutes. (Read the rest of the tips and write the benefits and the response before you write a draft.)
Don't try too hard. Who cares if they're all junk? You're writing lots of headlines to get your subconscious mind to take you serious-ly, and throw up the PERFECT headline. You'll never achieve this per-fect headline with conscious thought. It's a gift from your subcon-scious, but you have to goose it into cooperating.
You may find a headline you like more than your initial headline. Just substitute it, if it fits. If it doesn’t you can write another version of the ad to fit that headline's concept.
Tip Three: Write the features first, then work out what the benefits are
Nobody buys a product (or a service) for its own sake. They buy because it benefits them in some way. The benefits are what you're selling.
⦠You're not selling a German Shepherd puppy, you're selling an intelligent, loyal companion and family protector.
⦠You're not selling a car, you're selling traveling comfort, prestige, and a sure-fire babe-magnet.
⦠You're not selling a book, you're selling the adventure of a lifetime, love, romance, and sex.
To get a handle on this, take a sheet of paper and briefly list the features of your product or service on the left.
Then besides the feature, write the corresponding benefit that each feature provides.
Remember --- use the benefits in your ad.
Tip Four: Dont forget the response!
I've lost count of the number of ads I've seen everywhere from the Yellow Pages to full display ads costing thousands in magazines, where the copywriter and everyone else forgot the response.
You must tell the reader what you want him to do. You must ask for the sale. Ask the reader to do something: call a number, come into the store, go to a Web site.
This is so important that when I'm writing an ad I always write the required response on a sticky note and tape it to a corner of my monitor. I tape it onto the screen itself, so I can't miss it. (Yes, I have been guilty of forgetting the response. And very embarrassing it was too.)
Tip Five: Read it out loud
You've finished the final draft of your ad. Before you show it to an-yone else, read it aloud.
You'll pick up redundancies, awkward sentence construction and other nasties when you read the copy aloud.

1. Set yourself goals.
2. Prioritise those goals.
3. Set yourself deadlines for when you want to achieve them.
4. Recognise threats and opportunities.
5. Develop your skills or increase your knowledge.
6. Use your support network.
7. Measure your progress.
1. Set Yourself Goals
Search for the things you really want in life, these are your long-term goals.
As a twenty-something, you’re in one of the scariest phases of life. Everything feels chaotic, and there are many frustrations. Figuring out what you want is not only the first step in planning, it’s also the hardest. Once you’ve figured out what you want to do, that dream acts an emotional anchor; it provides stability and structure in a time of chaos.
By the way, your life goals should be difficult; they should feel enormous, and scary, and totally overwhelming.
You’re going to break them down into tiny baby steps, and that will make them feel manageable and achievable, and you will achieve them.
But, before you do that, your goals SHOULD overwhelm you. This is because you’re thinking and planning for your future. And, it’s normal and natural to feel scared; it’s your life you’re planning, and that’s a serious matter indeed.
2. Prioritising Your Goals
Next, you need to consider all the little steps that will help you achieve your big goals. And you’ll need to prioritise these short-term goals. Remember that you can’t do everything at once and trying to will lead to failure.
Consider what step needs to happen now.
In your PDP, set yourself mini goals to make the big ones happen.
For example, say you want a career in academia as a senior lecturer and someday a professor. First, you’re going to need a PhD to make that happen. So there’s a big goal, now break it down into steps like this:
1. Learn about the PhD application process.
2. Find a suitable university and supervisor for a PhD.
3. Look at routes for funding.
4. Find studentships to apply for/or apply to your university of choice.
5. Write and submit your PhD application.
3. Set Yourself Deadlines
Knowing when you want to achieve a goal is crucial and picturing your future is an important source of motivation and inspiration.
Day-dreaming is a vital motivation mechanism, and you should harness it to set a deadline on your goals. When you picture yourself buying your first home, how old are you? When you walk up on that graduation stage and get your doctorate, when will that be?
But dreams cannot be the only way to set deadlines; you need to make your dreams realistic. Otherwise, you could become discouraged.
Find out the likelihood of you achieving your dreams by speaking to other people about their experiences and researching the process so you get a realistic idea of what to expect.
Realism factors are vital because they prevent you from becoming discouraged when you do hit pitfalls, they also help you learn more about the things you want to achieve, and can help you predict future problems and plan how to avoid them!

4. Recognise threats and opportunities
There are going to be certain things – they could be external things or an element of yourself – that, if you let them, will prevent you from achieving your goals or delay you on your way.
These are your threats.
For example, a lack of motivation could be detrimental to applying for that PhD. But once you’ve identified your tendency to procrastinate or lose focus you can put in place methods that will keep you motivated on your dreams.
There are also going to be things that you could do, and connections you could take advantage of that will help you on your way. These are things you should commit to doing; these are your opportunities.
For example, if there’s a conference coming up. Take advantage of that situation. Go along and network, stay up to date on the latest knowledge, even present a paper!
5. Develop yourself
Once you have an idea of what could hinder you and what could help you, this is when you can capitalise on those opportunities you recognised. Make an action plan about how you’ll make that progress.
Whatever it is that hinders you, there’s a way to stop it, and your plan is the first step to making sure you stay motivated.
So why not take a look at how to upskill yourself, develop transferable skills in today’s rapidly changing jobs market, or even discover an online learning opportunity.
6. Use your support network
The next thing you need to realise is that:
You don’t have to do everything by yourself.
And you shouldn’t. The support network around you is a valuable asset, so use it and don’t underestimate it.
In your PDP, list the people who can help you. This could be a financial advisor, a friend, a colleague. People are often so happy to help you, more than you might realise.

7. Measure progress
Whether it’s big or small, after you’ve achieved some progress take time to reflect on how far you’ve come.
Recognising what has gone well is a way to bolster your motivation and remain dedicated.
And after a setback, this is another time to take stock.
Wallowing – briefly – is a good way to feel what you need to without holding on to it. Holding onto sadness, anger or frustration, however, will only deter you. These emotions will take you nowhere and will only hinder you.
You should also spend a little time figuring out why it went wrong. Can you identify a skills or knowledge gap? If you can, then you can get yourself back on track by focusing on your next little step; this will reignite your sense of purpose and help you regain control which is integral to making progress.
